DaJohn Taylor was sentenced to 19 years in state prison, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a news release on Friday, Oct. 18. He was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and aggravated assault.

Investigators said one group walking on the 300 block of East Magnolia Avenue in Wildwood got into an argument with another group standing on a porch at around 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023. A physical fight started and Taylor stabbed 19-year-old Kaiden Braithwaite, along with two other people.

Police found Braithwaite dead from several stab wounds and his cousin has permanent nerve damage from his injuries.

"This sentence holds DaJohn Taylor accountable for the senseless violence that led to Kaiden Braithwaite’s tragic death and the lifelong injuries suffered by Mikal Braithwaite," said Sutherland. "While no sentence can undo the harm caused, we hope this brings some measure of justice and closure to the Braithwaite family."

Taylor, who was 18 at the time of the stabbing, ran away from the scene. He surrendered at the Wildwood Police Department the next day and was held in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.

Taylor must serve more than 16 years of his sentence before he's eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.
